Meeting families where they are

On 29 April 2026, Straight From The Heart International joined the West Point Women for Health and Development Organization for a community awareness walk and gathering at West Point Recreation Park. Township leaders, disability advocates and families came together to talk about autism, challenge stigma and create space for caregiver questions.

Listening is the first step

Three days of community mobilization preceded the gathering. The programme included public remarks, educational conversations and an opportunity for families to share their experiences. Regional Director Ibrahim Dukuly led the SFTH team.

35 children, and a starting point for support

The team registered 35 undiagnosed neurodivergent children and their primary caregivers. Registration is a baseline for follow-up; it is not a clinical diagnosis or evidence that services have already been delivered. The activity report identifies professional assessment referrals, caregiver training, psychosocial support and service linkages as the next steps.

What comes next

The report recommends formalizing the collaboration with WPWHDO, securing transport and reusable event equipment, and building sustained support around the families identified. These remain proposed next steps requiring resources and coordination.
