A global platform for women’s voices
The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the leading global intergovernmental body dedicated to advancing gender equality and empowering women. Its annual session brings together governments, UN representatives, and civil society to promote women’s rights. NGO parallel events held alongside the session provide a platform to share experiences and amplify underrepresented voices.
March 23, 2018 · Where our journey began
Straight From The Heart International, Inc. began its CSW advocacy on March 23, 2018, with the panel discussion, “Is Autism the New Challenge to Women’s Equality?” Featuring Dr. Joanne Gerenser, Dr. Kristen Gillespie-Lynch, and parents Bethanie Milford and Jaki Mathaga, the event highlighted the challenges faced by women and families affected by autism.
March 13, 2025 · Unheard Voices
Building on this foundation, we presented “Unheard Voices: Amplifying Women’s Experiences with Autism/IPDD in Developing Countries” on March 13, 2025, at the Church Center of the United Nations in New York. Keynote speaker Anna Marie Dorelien joined parent advocates Faith Aveeno, Margaret Bolaji-Adegbola, Musu Sesay, Ibrahim B. Dukuly, and Sia Mary Kamara to share personal experiences and call for greater awareness, inclusion, and support. Ms. Julia Kamaah served as the event’s master of ceremonies.
